History & origins
The Diocese of Chuncheon’s official mission-station records give 1955 as the year Yangmun Mission Station was established. At that time, Catholic communities in northern Pocheon were scattered among mission stations, and Yangmun continued its life of faith as a mission community receiving pastoral care from a neighboring parish rather than as an independent parish.
After Pocheon Parish was transferred to the Diocese of Chuncheon in 1969, the Catholic community of Uncheon was elevated to a parish in November 1970. The history of Uncheon Parish records that, at the time of its establishment, the mission stations of Gwanin, Jipo-ri, Munhye-ri, and Yangmun, formerly under Cheorwon Parish, were transferred to the new parish. Through this reorganization, Yangmun became directly connected to the pastoral structure of Uncheon Parish.
Yangmun has remained a mission station of Uncheon Parish rather than being elevated to a separate parish. Public official sources do not provide a detailed chronology of church construction or relocation, so the verifiable history of this site is best centered on its establishment in 1955 and its transfer to Uncheon Parish in 1970.
