About this place
Oeum-ri Mission Station belongs to Holy Savior Parish, Hwacheon, in the Diocese of Chuncheon. It serves as a local center where Catholics in Gandong-myeon, Hwacheon-gun can continue their life of prayer and liturgy close to home. The official diocesan mission-station directory places Oeum-ri under Hwacheon Parish, and the parish history explains that several mission communities, including Oeum-ri, emerged as the Catholic population in the Hwacheon area grew after the Korean War.
The mountainous and military geography of Oeum-ri made travel to a parish church difficult. In this setting, the mission station played an important role in sustaining the local Catholic community and maintaining its connection with the parish. Today it is best understood not as an independent parish but as a mission station that supports the faith life of local Catholics within the pastoral care of Hwacheon Parish.
