About this place
Munhye Mission Station is a Catholic mission station in Galmal-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon State, within the Western District of the Diocese of Chuncheon. It is currently under Galmal Parish of St. Charles Cho Shin-cheol. The diocese classifies Munhye not as an independent parish but as a mission station, so it should be understood as a local community space where Catholics continue their sacramental and communal life within the pastoral care of Galmal Parish rather than as a parish with its own resident pastor.
The diocesan record gives 1955 as the year Munhye Mission Station was established, showing that a Catholic community existed here before the present Galmal Parish itself was erected. Today Munhye illustrates the typical role of a mission station in a geographically broad pastoral area: it allows Catholics living at a distance from the parish church to gather locally for their common faith life. More important than changeable Mass schedules is its identity as a long-established local mission station belonging to Galmal Parish.
