About this place
The community of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary of Mirinae in Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, is identified in the Catholic Church directory in Korea as the “Chuncheon branch” of the congregation. The directory gives the English name Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary of Mirinae and registers the site as a women’s institute of consecrated life located in the territory of the Diocese of Chuncheon. The place in the package is therefore not the congregation’s motherhouse or generalate, but one of its local branch communities.
The congregation itself is recorded in the Catholic directory as having been founded on February 2, 1984, while its generalate and motherhouse are located elsewhere. The Gapyeong site is one of several branch communities maintained by the congregation in different dioceses, so it should not be understood as an independent parish church or an ordinary retreat facility. The key fact supported by the public sources is its present identity as a local community of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary of Mirinae situated within the Diocese of Chuncheon.
