About this place
Caritas Retreat House is a retreat and prayer house within the Diocese of Chuncheon, entrusted to the Seoul Province of the Sisters of Caritas of Jesus. Located in Toseong-myeon, Goseong, where the East Sea meets the Seoraksan landscape, the congregation presents it as a place where people can step away from the rush of daily life, remain in silence and prayer, rest in body and spirit, and encounter God.
The house includes a chapel, prayer spaces, a hall, and lodging facilities to support individual and group retreats and formation. Its character is therefore that of a place centered on prayer, silence, and reflection rather than a tourist facility, and it is also listed in the Catholic Church directory in Korea as a retreat and prayer house of the Diocese of Chuncheon.
History & origins
The chronology of the Sisters of Caritas of Jesus records that in November 2004 the Caritas Retreat House in Goseong was established separately from the nursing home. This marks the point at which the retreat apostolate was distinguished from the care ministry and began to take shape as an independent spiritual space.
Since then, Caritas Retreat House has continued to operate as a distinct place for the retreat apostolate and is still identified by the congregation and the Catholic Church directory in Korea as an independent retreat and prayer house. The available official chronology does not provide detailed records of later extensions or renovations, so the securely documented history extends from its separate establishment in 2004 to the continuation of its retreat ministry.
