About this place
Hongcheon St. Francis Friary is a monastery in which members of the Order of Friars Minor, commonly known as the Franciscans, live as a religious community. The Catholic Directory of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea lists it within the Diocese of Chuncheon as the “Hongcheon St. Francis Friary” of the Order of Friars Minor and confirms the institute's official English name as Order of Friars Minor (O.F.M.).
Its basic character is not that of a territorial parish church but of a friary where Franciscan brothers live their common religious life. The public directory identifies the community, but it does not specify regular public programs or the extent to which visitors may enter the monastery. The place is therefore best understood first of all as a local Franciscan religious community, with practical arrangements for visits or participation in events to be confirmed separately.
