Daughters of Holy Zeal Congregation

History & origins

The history of the Daughters of Divine Zeal as a congregation begins with its foundation on March 19, 1887, and the directory of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea records November 17, 1986 as the date of its arrival in Korea. Religious communities were subsequently formed in several parts of Korea. Public official sources currently available, however, do not provide the exact opening date or foundation year of the Hongcheon community.

Concrete records of the Hongcheon community's activities appear in the congregation's own official news. In February 2020, it reported that the “Hongcheon Yuchi-ri Community” had completed the construction of a Way of the Cross with the support of prayer and benefactors. This shows that by that time the Hongcheon community was continuing its religious life while developing a place for prayer.

The Hongcheon (Yuchi-ri) community was also among the communities visited during the Superior General's pastoral visit to the Korean delegation in 2025. These records confirm the continuing presence of the Hongcheon community within the congregation's Korean delegation. Because an exact local foundation date has not been verified in public official sources, no unconfirmed year has been inserted into this history.
