On March 1, 2013, Haean St. Luke Parish was elevated from a mission station of Yanggu Parish to an independent parish, and the pastoral territory was reorganized. According to the diocesan history, Dongmyeon and Bangsan mission stations, which had belonged to Yanggu Parish, were transferred at that time to the newly established Haean Parish.
The history of Dongmyeon Mission Station can therefore be summarized as a local Catholic community begun in 1971 and incorporated into the pastoral structure of the new Haean Parish when it was established in 2013.
