Buksan Mission Station belongs to Saembat St. Peter the Apostle Parish in the Diocese of Chuncheon and serves Catholics living in Buksan-myeon, Chuncheon. The diocese officially lists the station under Saembat Parish, making it a local pastoral center where the faithful can sustain community life at a distance from the main parish church.
Buksan-myeon includes broad mountain areas and communities around Lake Soyang, and travel to the parish church can be difficult from some locations. History & origins
Buksan Mission Station was established on May 21, 2014, when Saembat Parish organized a separate local community for Catholics in Buksan-myeon. The Diocese of Chuncheon records that the new mission station consisted of 25 households and 49 faithful at the time. Its establishment was part of the way Saembat Parish, which had become a parish in 2006, expanded its pastoral care in response to the needs of surrounding areas.
The diocesan history also notes that the Buksan area was where the family of Hwang Sim was arrested during the Sinyu Persecution of 1801. This does not identify the present mission-station building itself as a persecution-era site, but it shows that the broader Buksan area carries memories linked to the history of Catholic persecution in late Joseon Korea.
The direct institutional history of Buksan Mission Station therefore begins with its establishment in 2014, while the area in which it stands is connected with a much older layer of Catholic memory. Within the pastoral care of Saembat Parish, the mission station continues local community life while also linking that regional memory of faith with the present.
