Cheongra 3(dong) Catholic Church

History & origins

As Cheongna International City developed and its residential population grew, the community of Cheongna Parish became larger. The Diocese of Incheon therefore established Cheongna 3-dong Parish on August 27, 2018, by separating it from Cheongna Parish. The new parish took Saint John Paul II as its patron and was given pastoral responsibility for the whole of Cheongna 3-dong. Because it initially had no independent church building, the community began parish life in temporary spaces.

From February 2020, the parish rented nearby commercial premises and celebrated Mass separately from the mother parish. During the same period it developed concrete plans for a permanent church. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 16, 2021, presided over by Bishop John Baptist Jung Shin-chul of Incheon, and the building was completed in October 2022.

The new church was dedicated on May 20, 2023, allowing the Cheongna 3-dong community to move beyond its temporary-church period and center its parish life on a permanent home. The sequence from separation, to temporary worship space, to construction and dedication shows the typical process by which a new parish forms and becomes established in response to population growth in a new city.
