Galilee Monastery is a community of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Diocese of Cheongju and is identified by that name in both the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea directory and the diocesan institutional directory. The Galilee childcare center, for which the same congregation serves as the responsible religious institute, is located at the same site, closely linking the life of the religious community with an apostolate of care for children.

The Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Korean women's religious congregation begun in 1935 by Fr. Louis Deslandes, also known in Korea as Fr. Nam Dae-yeong, together with six consecrated women in Yeongcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Following the Gospel spirit that the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, the congregation developed ministries for the poor and marginalized. Galilee Monastery can therefore be understood as a local place where the congregation lives in community in Cheongju and continues its mission of care and service.
