About this place
Ssangbong Mission Station is a Catholic place of worship officially listed by the Diocese of Cheongju and located in Geumwang-eup, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. A mission station is a small faith community formed so that Catholics living at some distance from a parish church can gather nearby for common prayer and liturgical life. Ssangbong has served this function within the local life of Geumwang-eup.
The current diocesan list confirms the name and location of Ssangbong Mission Station, and the Korean Catholic Encyclopedia’s entry on Geumwang Parish also includes “Ssangbong” among its mission stations in an earlier period. It can therefore be understood not merely as a place name but as a site where the mission-station tradition of the Catholic community in the Geumwang area has continued into the present. Because the available public sources do not establish its earliest foundation history, this introduction is limited to its present identity and local significance.
