About this place
Seocheongju Catholic Church is the parish church of Seocheongju Parish in the Heungdeok District of the Catholic Diocese of Cheongju, serving Catholics in Biha-dong and the western urban area of Cheongju. The diocese identifies Saint Michael the Archangel as the parish patron. Its pastoral territory includes residential areas and zones shaped by the westward expansion of the city, giving it a distinctly urban character unlike older rural mission-station communities.
The parish fulfills the ordinary Catholic functions of Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, devotional life, and fellowship, bringing Catholics of the area into one community. It is clearly identified in the diocese's current district structure as a Heungdeok District parish, with the church in Biha-dong serving as the center for liturgy and parish gatherings. Seocheongju is best understood not as an old historic church but as a relatively young parish created in response to changes in population and urban life in western Cheongju. Together with neighboring parishes in the Heungdeok District, it forms part of the pastoral network through which the diocese adapted its parish structure to changing residential patterns.
