Maengdong Parish belongs to the Eumseong District of the Diocese of Cheongju and is located in Maengdong-myeon, Eumseong County. The diocese identifies the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as its patronal title and lists Maengdong as an established parish. It is the local center where the faithful gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life.
The Korean Catholic Directory also lists a branch of the Brothers of Kkottongnae of Jesus at the same location under the name “Maengdong Parish Branch,” confirming that the parish’s pastoral life is connected with the apostolate of the Kkottongnae religious community. Maengdong is therefore distinctive as a local parish in which religious-community participation is also present in pastoral ministry.
History & origins
According to the official records of the Diocese of Cheongju, Maengdong Parish was established on August 17, 2010. The available public sources do not provide enough detail to reconstruct an earlier mission-station stage or the exact process by which it may have been separated from a mother parish, but 2010 is a firmly verified point at which it became an independent parish.
