About this place
Kkottongnae Spirituality House of Love is a retreat and prayer house in Kkottongnae, Eumseong, Chungcheongbuk-do. The Korean Catholic directory lists it as a retreat and prayer facility associated with the Diocese of Cheongju and confirms its present location in the Kkottongnae complex. Rather than functioning as a territorial parish responsible for a defined local community, it is a spiritual facility where people stay for prayer and retreat and reflect on their faith and life.
Kkottongnae’s official vision connects “Love,” one of its four apostolates, with the Kkottongnae Sisters of Jesus and the Spirituality House of Love. The house therefore serves as a place where Kkottongnae’s spirituality of love of neighbor and Gospel-inspired care can be contemplated through prayer and retreat. Located close to the community’s works of service, it links outward activity with interior reflection and prayer.
History & origins
The development of the Spirituality House of Love as a distinct facility can be traced in records of Kkottongnae’s 25th anniversary. Catholic Times reported that the anniversary events held at Eumseong Kkottongnae on September 8, 2001, included a Mass of thanksgiving and several commemorative events together with a groundbreaking ceremony for the “Kkottongnae Spirituality House.” This record identifies the documented beginning of the project.
The exact date of completion or formal opening after the groundbreaking cannot be established from the authoritative sources obtained in this research. The current Korean Catholic directory, however, lists the “Kkottongnae Spirituality House of Love (Retreat House)” as a distinct retreat and prayer facility within Eumseong Kkottongnae. The documented sequence therefore extends from the 2001 groundbreaking to the later establishment of a functioning place where Kkottongnae’s spirituality is shared through prayer and retreat.
