According to the Korean Catholic Encyclopedia, Yeongdong Parish was separated from Okcheon Parish and established on June 1, 1956. As the Catholic community spread across Yeongdong-gun, the pastoral territory was gradually reorganized, with Hwanggan and Cheongsan becoming separate parishes and the Haksan area eventually moving toward its own parish structure as well.
The Diocese of Cheongju records June 24, 1995, as the establishment date of Haksan Parish. The Korean Catholic Encyclopedia likewise states in its history of Yeongdong Parish that Haksan Parish was separated from Yeongdong Parish in June 1995. The origin of Haksan Parish is therefore best understood not as the first arrival of Catholicism in a new area, but as the reorganization of a growing Catholic community formerly served by Yeongdong Parish into an independent parish for the Haksan area.
After its separation, Haksan developed as a parish serving the southern part of Yeongdong-gun. Its history, while rooted in its relationship with the mother parish, reflects a broader pattern in rural Chungcheongbuk-do: as Catholic communities changed and expanded, parish territories were divided so that pastoral care could be brought closer to local believers.
