Gyemyeong Catholic Church is the church of Gyemyeong Parish in the Chungju District of the Diocese of Cheongju. Official diocesan information identifies St. Luke Hwang Seok-du as the parish patron, and the parish now belongs to the Chungju District together with Gyohyeon-dong, Mokhaeng-dong, Yeonsu-dong, Jungangtap, and other parishes. It is the local parish center where Catholics in the Yeonsu-dong area of Chungju gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life.
Its dedication to St. Luke Hwang Seok-du clearly shapes the spiritual identity of the parish. Gyemyeong Catholic Church is better understood not as an ancient shrine or a parish that grew out of a historic mission station, but as an independent community within the modern parish structure of the Chungju area. The establishment of Gyemyeong Parish is an example of the diocesan pastoral structure in twenty-first-century Chungju expanding through the creation of a new parish unit. Since then, Gyemyeong has continued its parish life as an independent pastoral community in the Chungju area. Although the documented chronology is not long, the 2009 establishment of the parish is the clearest historical reference point for Gyemyeong Catholic Church and reflects the way the local Church in modern Chungju has organized new parish communities in response to changing residential areas.
