About this place
Guryong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Cheongju in Ochang-eup, Cheongju. The diocese’s official record identifies Saint Paul Chong Hasang, one of the Korean Martyrs, as the parish’s patron saint. It is a local pastoral center where Catholics in the Ochang area gather around Mass and the sacraments and form a parish community through catechesis and communal activities.
Within the comparatively recently developed residential and industrial life of Ochang, the parish provides a stable place through which local Catholics remain connected with the diocese. According to the official records of the Diocese of Cheongju, Guryong Parish was established on September 13, 2006. The same record names Saint Paul Chong Hasang as the patron saint, confirming that at this point an independent parish community in the Ochang area was formally established within the diocesan structure.
The diocese’s currently available parish information does not provide a detailed chronology of any earlier mission-station stage or of the construction and dedication of the church building. Rather than adding unverified dates or events, the establishment of the parish in 2006 is therefore the clearest historical point that can presently be documented.
