About this place
Deoksan Parish belongs to the Jungbu District of the Diocese of Cheongju and is located in Deoksan-eup, Jincheon County. The diocese lists the parish officially and names Thomas Choe Yang-eop as its patron. It is the local parish in which Catholics of the Deoksan area gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life.
Its dedication to Thomas Choe Yang-eop is an important element of the parish’s spiritual identity. Deoksan Parish can therefore be understood as a local Catholic community that enables the faithful of the Jincheon area to continue their life of faith close to where they live.
History & origins
According to the official parish record of the Diocese of Cheongju, Deoksan Parish was established on January 20, 2005. The publicly available official sources consulted do not provide enough detail about an earlier mission-station stage, the mother parish from which it may have been separated, or the early construction history of the church.
The clearest verified historical point is therefore the establishment of the parish in 2005. Since then, Deoksan has continued as a parish of the Jungbu District of the Diocese of Cheongju, with Thomas Choe Yang-eop as its patron. Until further official historical material becomes available, it is preferable not to speculate about the circumstances of its establishment or the detailed building history.
