About this place
Deokam Parish is a parish in the Cheongwon District of the Diocese of Cheongju, located in Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju. The official diocesan record names Saint Jude Thaddeus the Apostle as its patron and includes Deokam among the diocese’s established parishes. It is a parish community in northern Cheongju where the faithful gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life.
Together with the other parishes of the Cheongwon District, Deokam forms part of the pastoral network serving northern Cheongju. Its essential significance is that of an independent parish community at the center of the ordinary Catholic life of local believers.
History & origins
According to the official records of the Diocese of Cheongju, Deokam Parish was established on August 15, 1987. The current diocesan parish page confirms this establishment date and the patron saint, but it does not provide a detailed account of any earlier mission-station stage, the process of separation from a mother parish, or the early construction history of the church.
The verified historical reference point is therefore the parish’s establishment in 1987. Since then, Deokam has remained a parish of the Cheongwon District of the Diocese of Cheongju. Until more detailed historical records are identified, it is safer to rely on the establishment fact directly provided by the diocese rather than speculate about the circumstances of its foundation or later building changes.
