About this place
Chupungnyeong Outstation is a Catholic outstation under Hwanggan Parish in the Diocese of Cheongju, serving Catholics in Chupungnyeong-myeon, Yeongdong County. The directory of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea lists it as an outstation of the Diocese of Cheongju and explicitly identifies Hwanggan as its mother parish. Its basic identity is therefore that of a local Catholic community where faithful living at some distance from the parish church can gather for prayer, Mass, and communal life.
Chupungnyeong lies on a historic pass connecting the Chungcheong and Yeongnam regions, and Catholic outstation communities have long existed in the wider area. The present Chupungnyeong community remains connected to Hwanggan Parish and continues to provide a local place for Catholic life. Visitors should understand it not as an independent parish but as an outstation formed and sustained within the pastoral care of Hwanggan Parish, serving the faith of a smaller local community.
