About this place
The Busan branch of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres is a women's religious community in the Gimhae area within the Diocese of Busan. The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea lists it as “Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres (Daegu Province: Busan Branch),” making clear that it is a local house belonging to the Daegu Province rather than an independent parish.
The Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres describe charity as their mission and simplicity, humility, and boldness as the spirit of the congregation; they entered Korea in 1888 and have a long history in the country. The Busan branch can be understood as a community living that religious tradition in the Gimhae and Busan diocesan area. Visitors should therefore see the place primarily as a local house for the common life and apostolate of religious sisters rather than as an ordinary church building, and should distinguish the history of the congregation as a whole from the local history of this particular branch.
