About this place
Holy Family Catholic Church is a parish of the Udong District in the Diocese of Busan, serving the faith life of Catholics in the Jwadong area of Busan's Haeundae-gu. The Catholic Church directory in Korea identifies “the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph” as its patron and notes that the Salesian Sisters take part in the parish apostolate. The current Diocese of Busan parish directory likewise identifies Holy Family as a parish of the Udong District.
The name and patronal title “Holy Family” connect the parish's identity with Catholic spirituality that looks to the family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as a model for living love and faith within family life. Through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life for different generations, the parish helps Catholics in the Jwadong area of Haeundae learn and practice their faith close to everyday life.
For parishioners, the church is both a place to participate in the liturgy and a community center where families and generations build relationships in faith. History & origins
Holy Family Parish was established on February 18, 1998. Because it was created as Haeundae's new residential town was rapidly taking shape, its origin belongs to a broader period in which the Diocese of Busan was expanding parish structures so that the growing and mobile urban population could receive pastoral care closer to home.
After its establishment, the parish developed not only its liturgical and sacramental life but also educational and family-centered community activities. A diocesan record from 2012 notes that the parish collected clothing, shoes, bags, blankets, and other necessities to assist people living in poverty in Laos. The activity shows how the meaning of care contained in the name “Holy Family” was also expressed through sharing with neighbors in need beyond the local area.
In 2018 the diocesan record also notes a religious drama performed by the parish community. Over time, therefore, the parish's life of worship and sacraments was joined by cultural expressions of faith and charitable outreach. Publicly available official sources do not provide enough detail to reconstruct every stage of the early church-building process, but they do show the steady establishment of the parish community in Haeundae's new-town area since 1998.
