St. Paul Catholic Church

History & origins

St. Paul Parish was established on June 3, 1986. The Catholic Church directory in Korea records this as the parish's official founding date and identifies St. Paul the Apostle as its patron. The establishment of an independent parish amid the growth of Ulsan's Dong-gu gave local Catholics a closer pastoral base for liturgy, the sacraments, and faith formation within their own area of daily life.

Since its establishment, the parish has become a Catholic community involving several generations as the surrounding area developed. Public sources do not provide enough detail to reconstruct every stage of the early church-building process, but diocesan records show that the parish has continued to remember its founding through celebrations of its parish day.

In June 2021 the parish marked its 35th anniversary with a commemorative concert. The diocesan bulletin explicitly described the event as celebrating the “35th anniversary of the parish's establishment,” confirming continuity from the 1986 founding. Celebrating the anniversary through a cultural event also shows how the parish's history has become not merely a date in a record but a shared memory experienced and handed on within the community.
