Seongan Catholic Church is a parish of the Boksan District in the Diocese of Busan, located in Jung-gu, Ulsan. History & origins
Seongan Parish was established on October 7, 2011. The Catholic Church directory in Korea records this as its official founding date and identifies St. John the Baptist as the patron. With the creation of an independent parish in the Seongan-dong area of Ulsan's Jung-gu, local Catholics gained a nearby community centered on Mass and the sacraments.
During its first decade the parish put down roots in the area and developed its own communal anniversaries. In 2021 it reached its 10th anniversary, and the Diocese of Busan recorded that in May of that year the parish donated funds to the Ulsan vicariate's “Light and Salt” medical-support initiative. Part of the budget originally intended for parish-day festivities was redirected to neighbors in need of medical assistance.
Later that year the parish also held its 10th-anniversary parish-day celebration. The fact that a relatively young parish commemorated its first decade through liturgy and celebration while also sharing resources with neighbors is a distinctive feature of its early history. The present community continues its life as a local parish of Ulsan's Jung-gu on the foundation laid during those first ten years.
