Rosario's Retreat House

History & origins

The House of the Rosary was established as part of the Diocese of Busan's expansion of pastoral facilities. In an announcement of “new parishes and facilities,” the diocese introduced the House of the Rosary on Yerim-gil in Jeonggwan and stated that it would be operated as a retreat and training space for about thirty people. Among the official sources currently available, this notice most clearly describes the character of the facility at its launch.

The original diocesan description listed a chapel, lecture room, two group rooms, and dining space, as well as outdoor facilities including an outdoor altar and pavilion. The operating plan combined programs run by the house itself with use by outside groups. From the beginning, the aim was therefore not a large accommodation complex but a place where small communities could pray, learn, and share fellowship together.

The House of the Rosary has since continued to appear in the Korean bishops' conference guide to retreat and prayer houses as a facility of the Diocese of Busan. This continuity shows that its initial function for “retreats and training” developed into an ongoing diocesan spiritual and educational ministry. Within the limits of the official documentation available, its history can be described as the creation and continued operation of a dedicated diocesan space for small-group retreats and formation.
