Motgol Catholic Church

History & origins

Motgol Parish was established on September 17, 2004, with St. Teresa of Avila as its patron. It began as an independent community for Catholics in the Motgol area among the existing parishes of Nam-gu, Busan, and later became established as one of the parishes of the Namcheon District. The publicly available official sources do not provide the detailed circumstances of its earliest separation from another parish, but the date of establishment and continuity of the present parish are clearly documented in the bishops’ conference directory.

Later records show sustained attention to faith formation and vocations. In 2022, Motgol was among the parishes taking part in the Diocese of Busan’s entrance and opening Masses for prospective seminarians, showing the parish community supporting young people as they discern a possible priestly vocation.

During Lent in 2023, a Lenten lecture was held at Motgol Parish. This was one expression of parish formation aimed at helping the faithful reflect more deeply on Scripture and faith in harmony with the liturgical season. Over nearly two decades after its establishment, Motgol Parish has thus developed as both a local liturgical community and a place that continues to foster vocation awareness and spiritual formation.
