Mora St. John Parish was established on January 10, 2006, with St. John the Apostle as its patron. It began as an independent parish for Catholics in the Mora area of Sasang-gu, Busan, and within a relatively short period developed into a local community with an established liturgical life and lay organizations.
In 2016, the “Seat of Wisdom” Curia was established in the parish. Because a curia coordinates several Legion of Mary praesidia, its creation marks a point at which lay devotional activity within the parish had reached a stable organizational scale. That such a structure was established around the parish’s tenth year indicates the growth of the early community through active participation by the laity.
In 2021, the parish held a parish-day celebration marking the 15th anniversary of its foundation. The sequence from establishment, to the creation of a curia, to the fifteenth-anniversary celebration shows how Mora St. John Parish, founded in the mid-2000s, gradually rooted itself as a local parish by building up lay organizations and shared community traditions.
