About this place
Mandeok Catholic Church is a parish of the Yangsan District in the Diocese of Busan, serving the Mandeok area of Buk-gu, Busan. Current diocesan parish information and Catholic directory data identify the same parish and location, and the parish has Pentecost as its patronal mystery. For parishioners, it is the local center of Catholic life, where Mass, the sacraments, prayer, and catechesis are celebrated and practiced.
The parish’s own records and diocesan news document parish-day pilgrimages, long-running Legion of Mary activity, and youth praesidia. These records show a community that is not limited to the celebration of liturgy but has developed as a lived parish where different generations learn the faith and strengthen their bonds with one another.
History & origins
Mandeok Parish was established on May 31, 1981, with Pentecost as its patronal mystery. Formed as residential development expanded in Buk-gu, Busan, it grew into the Catholic community responsible for the liturgical and communal life of the faithful in the Mandeok area.
Diocesan records show that lay organizations and parish-wide events became firmly established over time. In 2018, the Legion of Mary praesidium “Queen of Charity” marked its 2,000th meeting, and in 2019 parishioners made a pilgrimage to Haemi Shrine for the parish day. These milestones indicate that lay devotional practices such as prayer groups and pilgrimages have long formed an important part of parish life.
In 2023, a youth praesidium named “Morning Star” was founded, showing the extension of faith activities to a younger generation. In 2025, the parish itself recorded an event marking the 44th anniversary of its establishment. Together, these milestones show how Mandeok Parish took root alongside the growth of the neighborhood and gradually broadened its communal life from established adult associations to younger generations.
