This site is both a Busan community of the Order of Friars Minor (O.F.M.) and a friary connected with the pastoral care of Bongnae-dong Parish. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory gives its subsidiary name as “Busan Bongnae-dong St. Mary of the Angels Friary/Parish” and shows that friars at the same address take part in parish ministry and in spiritual assistance to the Secular Franciscan Order. It is therefore more accurate to understand the place not merely as a religious-house chapel or simply as a separate parish, but as a site where the common life of a Franciscan community and parish pastoral ministry meet.

The Order of Friars Minor follows the evangelical way of St. Francis of Assisi and has long emphasized poverty, humility, and service to others as central elements of its Franciscan tradition. The significance of the Bongnae-dong site lies in the way this religious life encounters the local Church through parish ministry in Busan.
