Deokcheon Parish is a parish of the Yangsan District in the Diocese of Busan, located around Mandeok-daero in Buk-gu, Busan. The official Catholic directory in Korea lists it as a parish of the Diocese of Busan, with Mary Help of Christians as its patron. Its basic identity is that of a local pastoral center within the residential areas of Buk-gu, where Catholics continue their life of Mass and the sacraments and form community through catechesis and fellowship.
Although it is a relatively recent parish, Deokcheon supports the everyday faith of local Catholics as an independent community with both worship and educational spaces. History & origins
Deokcheon Parish was established on January 4, 2013. According to a Catholic Times report from the parish's early months, the community was preparing to dedicate a new church only about five months after its first pastor arrived. The article reported a Catholic population of about 600 at the time, showing that the new parish was quickly establishing an independent pastoral base.
The dedication of the new church took place on May 25, 2013. The church was built with seating for about 180 people, while the building previously in use was remodeled as an education hall. The project therefore did more than provide a place for Mass: it also separated and secured space for catechesis and parish meetings, creating the practical foundation for parish life.
The early history of Deokcheon is marked by the concentration of parish establishment and church dedication within the same year. Soon after the parish was formally created, it acquired both liturgical and educational spaces, forming a structure that would allow the new community to sustain pastoral ministry and faith formation in the local area.
