Dangri Church

History & origins

Dangri Parish was established in 2014 after being separated from Hadan Parish. The Diocese of Busan’s notice creating the new parish records that parts of Hadan Parish’s Dangri districts 1, 2, and 4 were assigned to the new parish. This was a pastoral reorganization that created an independent parish structure for Catholics in the Dangri living area of Saha-gu.

The Catholic Church directory in Korea records October 10, 2014, as the parish’s establishment date. The fact that the organization of the new parish and the securing of a church of its own proceeded within the same year shows how rapidly the community’s early history developed. The first stage was the transition from a local part of Hadan Parish to a new parish with its own pastoral territory.

On December 14, 2014, the new church was dedicated with Bishop Son Sam-seok presiding. The Diocese of Busan records that about four hundred priests, religious, and lay Catholics were present and that the new church was a three-story building. By dedicating its own church in the year of its establishment, the parish gained a stable place not only for Mass and the sacraments but also for formation and communal gatherings.

The building was arranged with parking on the first floor, the parish office, hall, and catechetical rooms on the second, and the church on the third. This configuration provided the newly separated parish with spaces for liturgy, formation, administration, and communal activity within a single facility. The 2014 separation from Hadan Parish, the definition of the new territory, and the dedication of the church in the same year constitute the principal foundation history of Dangri Parish.
