About this place

Daecheon Parish belongs to the Yangsan District of the Diocese of Busan and serves as a local pastoral center for Catholics in the area around Geumgok-daero in Buk-gu, Busan. The official Catholic directory in Korea clearly lists it as a parish of the Diocese of Busan, with Our Lady of Grace as its patron. Visitors can therefore understand Daecheon not simply as a church building, but as the home of a parish community where the Eucharist, the sacraments, catechesis, and communal life are carried on.

Set within the residential areas of northern Busan, the parish provides a local point where Catholics sustain their life of faith and build relationships with their neighbors within the diocesan pastoral structure. Its patron, Our Lady of Grace, is an important sign of the parish's prayer and identity, and the meaning of the place is found first of all in the community that gathers here for Mass and shares the faith rather than in architectural distinction alone.

History & origins

Daecheon Parish was established on December 27, 2004. This date, confirmed by the official Catholic directory in Korea, is the firm reference point for the parish's history in the sources presently available. Sufficient primary documentation about an earlier mission-station phase or the process of separation from a mother parish was not found in this research, so no unverified account of those circumstances has been added.

After its establishment, the community continued to develop around evangelization and parish fellowship. The diocesan bulletin records a missionary proclamation ceremony at Daecheon Parish in 2016, showing an occasion on which the community renewed its shared responsibility for evangelization in the local area.

The diocesan news also records parish-day gatherings in 2019 and again in 2022. These recurring events at different points in time show a community that, after its foundation, continued to strengthen both faith and fellowship. Rather than overstating a relatively short chronology, the history of Daecheon Parish is best understood as the process by which a newly established parish took root locally and sustained traditions of evangelization and communal life.
