About this place
Bongnae Catholic Church (봉래 성당) is a parish in the Central District of the Catholic Diocese of Busan, serving Catholics in the Yeongdo area through Mass, the sacraments, and parish community life. The official Catholic directory of Korea lists “Our Lady of the Angels” as its patron and also records, at the same address, the Order of Friars Minor community named the “Busan Bongnae-dong Our Lady of the Angels Friary/Parish.”
Bongnae is therefore distinctive as a place where the life of a local parish and the presence of a Franciscan religious community meet in the same setting. Parish ministry and religious life stand close together here, allowing visitors to understand both the ordinary faith life of Catholics in Yeongdo and the presence of a community living the Franciscan tradition within the parish.
History & origins
Bongnae Parish was established on March 20, 1969. Its patron is Our Lady of the Angels, and its establishment marked the formation of an independent parish community in the Yeongdo area. Officially accessible sources provide only limited detail on subsequent building projects or jurisdictional changes, so no unverified dates or events are added here.
Today, the official Catholic directory of Korea lists at the same address as Bongnae Catholic Church the Order of Friars Minor’s “Busan Bongnae-dong Our Lady of the Angels Friary/Parish.” This confirms the close present connection between parish ministry and the Franciscan religious community and shows how the parish founded for the local area continues today in association with a religious community.
