Beomseo Church

History & origins

Beomseo Parish was established on February 18, 1998, when it was separated from Mugeo Parish in response to residential development and population growth in the Ulsan area. A prefabricated building was completed in July of the same year, and the new community continued its Masses and parish life there. Rather than beginning with a fully developed church complex, the parish first established the community and then gradually added the facilities it needed.

In 2004, a rectory, convent, and education building were completed and dedicated, giving the parish more of the spaces needed for regular pastoral life. As the community grew, however, the limitations of the prefabricated church made a permanent new church increasingly necessary. From 2011 the faithful began preparing in earnest, combining fundraising and parish bazaars with spiritual preparation such as the Rosary and Scripture copying.

After years of preparation, ground was broken for the new church on June 7, 2015. On December 11, 2016, the completed church was dedicated in a ceremony presided over by Bishop Son Sam-seok. The new complex included the main worship space together with catechetical rooms, a hall, and a Eucharistic adoration chapel.

The history of Beomseo Parish is therefore the story of a community that separated from Mugeo, began in a temporary prefabricated church, gradually added supporting facilities, and then completed a permanent church after a long period of preparation by its members. It is an example of parish space and pastoral infrastructure growing together with a developing residential district.
