This place is listed by the directory of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea as the Huchon-dong community of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a women's religious community located in Yeongju within the Diocese of Andong. The Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was founded in Yeongcheon in 1935 by Fr. Louis Deslandes. The congregation states that its purpose is to glorify the Triune God and to serve so that the reign of the Sacred Heart of Jesus may come into the world. The Huchon-dong community is one local expression of this religious congregation within the diocesan Church.

The congregation as a whole carries out apostolates in parish mission, social welfare, healthcare, early-childhood education, overseas mission, retreats, and other fields. Public sources, however, do not establish that the Huchon-dong community itself directly conducts every one of these ministries.
