The community is located within the Diocese of Andong at the same site as Mokseong-dong Cathedral, and the directory gives the official English name of the institute as Olivetan Benedictine Sisters of Busan: O.S.B. It should therefore be understood not as a parish or mission station, but as a local religious-house community where sisters live community life and carry out their apostolate.

The Olivetan Benedictine Sisters are a women's religious institute in the Olivetan tradition following the Rule of St. Benedict. The Catholic Directory of Korea records January 28, 1830, as the institute's foundation date and September 14, 1931, as its arrival in Korea. The Andong community is significant as a local expression of that Benedictine tradition within the Diocese of Andong, and its identity as a religious-house community should be distinguished from that of the parish church with which it shares a site.
