History & origins

Mojeon-dong Parish was established on September 1, 1982. Both the Catholic directory of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea and a Catholic Peace Newspaper report on the parish’s fortieth anniversary give the same establishment date. With the creation of the new parish, Catholics in the Mojeon-dong area of Mungyeong gained a stable framework for organizing their faith life around an independent parish community.

The parish later came to have responsibility for Mareung, Sageun, and Oryong mission stations, forming a pastoral structure that connected an urban parish with rural mission-station communities. The mission stations provided places where Catholics could gather near their local communities, while the parish served as the central link through priests, liturgy, and sacramental life.

In September 2022, a Mass was celebrated for the fortieth anniversary of the parish, and Catholics received the sacrament of Confirmation as the community commemorated its history. The path from the parish’s establishment in 1982 to its fortieth anniversary shows how Mojeon-dong Parish has continued its communal life together with its mission stations through changes in the Mungyeong region.
