Korean Martyrs Blessed Sisters

This place is the Andong community of the Suwon Province of the Sisters of the Blessed Korean Martyrs, located at the same site as Mungyeong Parish. The Catholic Church directory of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea registers the community under the Diocese of Andong, and the Mungyeong parish entry also lists the Sisters of the Blessed Korean Martyrs as the religious congregation serving there. Its identity is therefore clearly that of a religious community closely connected with parish life.

The Sisters of the Blessed Korean Martyrs are a congregation founded in Korea under the patronage of the Korean martyrs. The Catholic Encyclopedia of Korea explains that Father Andrew Bang Yu-ryong founded the community while seeking a form of religious life rooted in Korean spirituality and the faith of the martyrs. The Andong community in Mungyeong is a local place where this tradition of martyr spirituality and consecrated life continues within a parish setting, and its presence is significant through prayer, common life, and close participation in the life of the local Church.

It is also significant that the official entry for Mungyeong Parish lists the congregation as part of the parish community. This shows that the religious house is not simply a separate institution near the church, but a form of consecrated community living in close proximity to the liturgical, educational, and communal life of local Catholics.
