Dotae Mission Station was established in 1959. The establishment of Dotae Mission Station belongs to this wider period in which Catholic community life was extending into the mountainous areas of Mungyeong.
During the 1960s, pastoral jurisdictions around Gaeun and Mungyeong were adjusted while rural mission stations continued to serve local Catholics. Public sources reviewed for this task do not provide a reliable record of Dotae’s earliest building or first local leader, but the Diocese of Andong’s present records clearly register it as a mission station of Gaeun Parish.
When the Diocese of Andong was established in 1969, the Sangju and Mungyeong territories that had been under the Waegwan vicariate were incorporated into the new diocese. Dotae Mission Station continued through this diocesan reorganization and remains one of the mission communities of Gaeun Parish. Unverified details of its earliest period are not inferred here; only the documented founding year and the broader changes in jurisdiction are presented.
